Why should wine be poured from bottle to decanter before serving?


With young wines (usually under 10 years), you need to let the wine "breathe" to enjoy the full flavor of the wine. Because young wine has a very high acidity and acrid taste, it will need oxygen to calm it down, and the other aromas of the wine will smell better. As a result, you will smell those aromas more harmoniously and the wine will be more balanced in the palate.


For aged wine (10 - 15 years), there will be wine residue deposited at the bottom of the bottle (residue is mainly residue from grape skins that are scum after fermentation). However, modern winemaking has ceased to produce significant amounts of sediment in the bottle.
