Details of clocks / taplo indicator lights on cars
Speedometer
The speedometer on the car taplo is usually the largest in size, round in shape and has a needle, on a clearly divided and numbered face. Most cars in Vietnam display the vehicle speed in km/h, while cars imported from Europe or the US have extra miles per hour (mph).
The speedometer also displays information about the distance the vehicle has run, and is divided into 2 types:
– ODO – the total distance traveled by the vehicle since the first time it rolled
– TRIP – the distance the vehicle has traveled on a journey for the driver to calculate the vehicle's fuel consumption
Engine rev counter
This type of meter is also usually round, small and always placed next to the speedometer, This meter tells the user the current number of revolutions of the engine crankshaft in 1 minute, showing the engine speed as rpm. The dials are numbered 1, 2, 3... corresponding to 1,000 rpm, 2,000 rpm, 3,000 rpm...
The hand of the rev counter reaches the red numbers (usually 6, 7, 8 onwards) which means that the engine speed has reached the redline limit. At that time, the driver needs to reduce the throttle or increase the gear to help the engine continue to operate stably and avoid damage.
Fuel gauge
On all models, this type of meter is designed according to the common convention with the letters F (Full) and E (Empty) showing the full and low fuel level, respectively.
Engine coolant temperature gauge
The display of this type of meter is similar to the fuel gauge, with 2 letters H (Hot) and C (Cold) showing the current temperature of the engine coolant. In the normal state, the hand of this meter will usually be in the middle or slightly deviated towards the letter C. If the warning coolant temperature is high (deviated towards the letter H), the engine is running very low. The heater and the cooling system may be having problems. At this time, the driver should bring the vehicle in for inspection to promptly fix possible damage to the engine.
