Google Search Console has overcounted mobile page experience data since June 29

Over the past four months, Google has miscalculated mobile page experience data in Google Search Console reports. This affected both the performance reports and the page experience reports in Google Search Console. The problem persisted from June 29 through November 1 – yes, for over four months.

What Google said. Google posted this notice in data anomaly page says “June 29 – November 1: Search Console overcharged Mobile Page Experience data for this time period. On November 1st, you will see the correct data again. This was posted in both the site experience reports and the performance reports section, meaning both of those reports were affected.

Added comments. Google added a footnote to the reports indicating that on November 1, Google had resolved the issue. You can see a small circle on the right side of this graph that records the problem.

Ask for more details. I've asked Google for more details on how this might affect reporting. Whether we see a drop in the percentage of good URLs for some sites, what happens to the set of graphs and average data in Search Console. Currently, I've looked through dozens of Search Console properties and haven't seen any changes to those metrics as of November 1. Maybe we'll see the changes tomorrow, when the data comes November 2 appeared.

Why do we care. A lot of SEOs over the past year have been, how should I say, obsessed with page experience and key web metrics. A lot of SEO companies sell this as part of their services and provide reports to clients on the improvements websites have made to these scores.

The next time you provide these reports to your customers, you may need to note that Google has had an overcalculation issue for the past four months and that's why there may be changes. for numbers after 1 November.
