Good morning, marketer, tomorrow night commemorates the 9th anniversary of my mother's death. In the Jewish world it's called yahrzeit and it got me thinking about the change and change we go through with death and of course over the past year and a half with COVID.

Usually, SMX East falls on the same week as the year and this year and last year we didn't have a live SMX event. In fact, last year the Javits Center was a makeshift hospital for COVID patients. In 2019, the last time it was a live performance, I thanked some of the Jews who helped me organize a small prayer service in memory of my mother. at the show . Who would have thought, just a few months later, that site would be converted into a hospital?

Change is not always bad. In fact, virtual conferences have provided the opportunity for many professionals who cannot fly to an event to showcase their knowledge. As someone who has been participating in the most sought-after conferences for 20 years, it's surprising how well the industry has adapted to change – for the better. Oh, and even for my mother's yahrzeit – we were virtual by provide a jewelry application in her memory.

How do you embrace change?

Barry Schwartz,
Good son

Updated Google search quality guidelines

Google has finally updated the company's search quality guidelines, which come after more than a year of non-updating documents. This time, Google has expanded the YMYL category, it clarifies what constitutes low-quality content, simplifies the definition of discomfort and annoyance, and the overall document has been refreshed and modern with minor updates throughout. In fact, the old document is a 175 pages PDF, the new page is 172 pages.

Why do we care. While search quality raters' ratings don't directly affect rankings (as Google makes clear in the documentation), they provide feedback that helps Google improve its algorithms. It's important to take some time to review what Google has changed in this updated version of the document and compare it to last year's version of the document to see if we can learn more about Google's intentions. for sites and web pages that Google wants to rank or not . Google has made those additions, corrections, and deletions for a reason.

Microsoft Advertiser Health Insurance Ads

Microsoft Advertising is introducing health insurance advertising as a pilot program, the company announced Tuesday. The new format is now eligible for advertisers targeting US customers.

Why do we care. Health insurance ads can help health insurance providers get in front of searchers, which can be especially important for the upcoming annual admissions season. Additionally, health insurance ads are dynamically generated, which can save advertisers time. This is the fourth vertical-specific ad type Microsoft Advertising has introduced this year, and they're all the same in terms of intent-triggered, appearing in the right line of the results, and dynamically generated. based on data feed. Maintaining this formula across promotional products can also make it easier for PPC professionals, especially those at agencies, to reach this type of advertising to different clients because of the different requirements and locations are the same.

Do you want an ad-free Google Search with a monthly subscription fee?

Do you pay a monthly subscription to remove all ads from Google Search results? Neeva thinks so, but so far, Google hasn't gone that route. But Google is asking some users through a bonus Google survey whether they would like such an option.

Eli Schwartz discovered this survey and posted it on Twitter . The survey asked, how much would you be interested in paying a reasonable price for a search service with that feature. The feature is “No ads at all.”

Google offers a premium service for YouTube without ads – so I guess it would be possible to offer this to Google Search. But honestly, I would be shocked if Google ever did this in search. The only way I can see this happening is if government regulation pushes Google to a point where this could have implications for their revenue.
