What are subdomains?
This tutorial will tell you what a subdomain is and how to create a subdomain on Hostinger. Subdomain is the extension of a domain name. Subdomain can be created completely for free and it can act like a real domain name. Subdomain (hay sub domain) was born to solve the cost of domain name registration as well as help you create many websites on different areas of the main domain. Before going into the article, you can refer to the detailed concept of what a domain name is in this article.
Example: one subdomain is a 2nd website that goes under the main domain. Do you have a website? mysite.com, you want to create a discussion forum for members of mysite.com then use subdomain forum.mysite.com is a good idea; Instead of needing to buy a new domain name, use the subdomain “forum“, this makes it easy for visitors to see that this is a discussion forum for mysite.com.
What do you need?
- One domain name and one hosting with that domain name
- Login to Control Panel of your hosting account
Create and manage subdomains
Hostinger supports you to create and manage subdomains easily from Control panel of your hosting account.
Select Subdomains from Control Panel
Import subdomain that you need to create and then press the "Create" button to do it.
After creating subdomain, look at the list"List the current Subdomains"you will see the subdomain created and the path to the directory of subdomain, Normally /public_html/subdomain
Now you can proceed to upload the web source to this directory to run normally.
Important: if you are not using Hostinger's nameserver for your domain, or your domain is not ordered at Hostinger. You need to point the A record of that subdomain to the ip of your Hosting for it to work. Instructions for pointing A record you can find here.
Epilogue
You can create as many subdomains according to the domain name as you like as long as you are the owner of that domain name and need to point A Record of the subdomain to the host in order for it to work.
The created directory name is the name of the subdomain, this name cannot be changed, it helps you easily remember the subdomains created by you.
