There are different choices if you decide to change your website. Sometimes you can do this through the web control panel, but in some cases it won't work. Therefore, the best solution is to use WordPress' MySQL database.
In this tutorial, we will show you the steps to change WordPress URLs using phpMyAdmin.
Before going into details, BKNS suggests that you backup your database carefully.
Steps to edit page URL from database
Editing the database can take a long time. So, be very careful during the steps below.
Step 1: Access your web hosting account and open cPanel
Search for the database entry and open phpMyAdmin
Step 2: Once the sections have been opened, the system will navigate back to the phpMyAdmin dashboard
From the left sidebar, tap database name. If you own multiple sites, you need to make sure you have the current data open for the site you're trying to change.
Step 3: You will see many data tables in the main content area
Search the wp_options . table
Note: For security reasons, many users or security plugins change wp_ to something else. So look for _options
Step 4: When you open wp_options table, you will see many columns and rows. Under “Option_name” look for “siteurl”
Click “Edit” in the link on the left
Step 5: You will see the current URL of the website. You have to update it with the new site address
It will be in the “option_value” section.
Step 6: Click the Go button displayed at the bottom of the website address box.
Step 7: go back to wp_options table and edit “Home” because that is also your website address
Follow the same process you did for “siteurl” and save the changes.
Once you do that, test your site after clearing your browser's cache and cookies. Sometimes stale data prevents you from seeing an updated version of a website.
Please note that links to the old site address may be broken. To fix this error, you need to install and re-enable the navigation plugin. However, you should look for broken links using an online tool
Changing the wordpress URL in MySQL using phpMyAdmin is not too difficult, right? Just follow the steps above and you will have your problem solved in no time. Always pay attention that you have to carefully edit everything else instead of focusing too much on the wp_options table of content.
Hope you are succesful.
