By default, when installing Plesk on Linux, the system will use the /var partition to store all of the system's data. For optimal and efficient system operation, we recommend partitioning the hard drive as follows:
Partitions | Recommended capacity |
---|---|
| This is a temporary storage partition when the RAM memory is full, we recommend this partition should be 2 times the capacity of the RAM memory but should not be larger than 32GB. |
| The minimum is 20GB and the best is 50GB. This is the partition used to install Plesk's operating system and updates. |
| Minimum 3GB, preferably 20GB |
| Use all remaining hard drive space. This partition will store all data related to the user such as: source code, database, email, backups ... |
The specifics of the /var partition and its subdirectories are as follows:
/var/www/vhosts
– Contains the entire content of the source code of domains created on Plesk./var/qmail
– contains data, sending and receiving configuration of Email for users./var/lib/mysql
– default path to store MySQL databases./var/lib/psa/dumps
– Save Plesk backup data./var/lib/pgsql/data
– default path to store PostgreSQL databases./var/tomcat*
– Tomcat applications./var/lib/mailman
– Mailman lists./usr/local/psa/tmp/
and/usr/local/psa/PMM/tmp/
-Store temporary files created during Plesk operation or backup.
These directories can be changed by editing the values in the file /etc/psa/psa.conf.
To better understand this modification, please read more examples: change backup directory on Plesk
