What is "Spooler SubSystem APP" and why does it run on your PC?

The Windows Task Manager, the watchdog for Windows processes helps you find processes that might be consuming a lot of computer resources like high disk usage, CPU, Memory, etc. In this post, we will see what Spooler SubSystem App & why it sometimes gives high CPU usage problems.

What is "Spooler SubSystem APP" and why is the CPU usage high?

Sometimes, when launching the Task Manager service, you may discover that the Cache Subsystem Application uses more than half the CPU and more than a gigabyte of memory. So what is the specific Spooler System application and why is it running on your PC? We will have the answer for you shortly:

Spooler SubSystem App is a process that helps users manage printer and fax systems. Whenever a program sends a document to the printer, the spooler subsystem application adds it to the print queue. The Print Spooler service stores these jobs in memory and sends each print job to the printer when it becomes available. It only requires internet access if you are using a printer on your network.

In these situations, the whole process goes as usual (as shown in the screenshot above) and doesn’t use much of your computer’s resources. It will only use some CPU resources when printing and that is acceptable. However, at other times, there may be a large amount of CPU resource usage due to spoolsv.exe progress. This can happen when there is a problem with the Windows printing system. Possible scenarios include a print queue full of tasks or a misconfigured printer.

The first thing you want to do is run Printer Troubleshooter and see if it helps you.

If not, open Control panel. In the Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools and then Services.

In Services locate Print Spooler and right click on it and select Stop.

Once the process has stopped, leave the Service Manager window open and Windows File Explorer and browse to the folder below.

C:WindowsSystem32spoolPRINTERS

In this folder, delete all files in PRINTERS directory to delete print jobs may be stuck. Once they have been removed, you can right-click Print Spooler in the Services window and click Start to re-enable the service.

If this doesn’t solve your problem, you probably have a problem with the printer driver you installed for your printer. Manually update the driver and make sure you have the latest printer driver for your printer.
