If you have heard of a new tool called Houdini but haven't had time to try it yet, let me take a look at this quick tutorial . If you have not heard of it, there is some information below for your reference.
What is Houdini?
Houdini is a tool "semi-jailbreak" (jailbreak half) for IOS 10.x, using vulnerabilities triple_fetch by Ian Beer discovered, and it is also an important part of the tool Saigon, to make some Change and tweak the interface that we normally can't do without jailbreaking the device.
However, due to not changing the kernel inside the source code or having no access to the full filesystem, it can't do much of the magic that a complete jailbreak tool provides.
How to use Houdini
1. To install Houdini on your device, download the .ipa file from the official website , and sideload the Cydia Impactor application .
2. Connect your device to the computer and open the Cydia Impactor that you downloaded above.
3. Check that your connected device is showing up in Impactor, then drag the Houdini.ipa file into the Impactor window to bring it into your device.
4. Enter your Apple ID and password to complete the process. If you are concerned about security, you should create a new ID to enter.
5. Once Houdini has been inserted into your device, its icon will appear on the main screen.
6. Open the Settings on your device up and navigate to General Settings - Device Management (General - Profiles & Device Management) . Select the account you used to sideload apps on your device Houdini with Impactor, then click the Trust ( the Trust) to authorize the application to run.
7. Open Houdini from the main screen, and press the Start button to exit the sandbox and prepare the application.
8. Houdini will run and you will see its interface as shown below.
If after a few minutes, the text escaping sandbox still appears on the screen .. the process may have failed. A message will pop up prompting you to reset your device using the hard keys and try again.
9. After Houdini has run successfully, you will be greeted with a Cydia emulator-style interface. A Sources tab allows you to add additional resources (although not available yet because it is still in beta) . The Packages tab is where you'll find available themes and tweaks. Let's try Icons Renamer as an example.
Select the desired options and then press the Apply button .
10. By going back to the Home tab , you can view device information, clean the system and respring the device. Hit the respring button now to apply your changes:
As you can see, the icons on my home screen are currently unnamed below the icon. But for me, I found it not as successful as expected because the Cydia app and some default apps don't lose their names, but this is only beta, so hopefully it will be improved. by the time.
Bring everything back to the status quo
Return all Utilities to Original , reset your Theme , respring , and delete the Houdini application .
Epilogue
Houdini is still not a real jailbreak tool, but it is only half of the jailbreak (semi-jailbreak) . It can't do all that a full jailbreak can because it's only part of the security-reducing measures needed, but it can do some fun and sure things. Definitely better than those who haven't been jailbreak for a while.
As support for Houdini increases, more themes and widgets will be compatible, and it will become more useful. The remaining beta versions will bring even bigger features, as not all of them are enabled now.
While the recent exploits of vulnerabilities may allow Saïgon and other jailbreak tools to “threaten” Houdini in the future, it is certainly a new and innovative direction being worked on, and towards a By the way, Houdini will remain the only jailbreak option for now.
