Notes to know to prepare for the upcoming official iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 update

Currently, Apple is still providing beta versions of iOS 14 / iPadOS 14 to developers and groups of users who sign up for the public testing program. However, in order to prepare well for the next official update, I would like to share some notes to help you update properly and avoid losing data when upgrading to this version. .

iOS 14 is the clearest testament to Apple's overwhelming strengths and obvious weaknesses in the face of Android - Tech Products Blogs

EXPECTED ISSUANCE TIME

As usual, the first update of a new iOS version is usually released by Apple after the end of the introduction of the new product line in September. However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on Globally, it has been reported that this event is delayed until October (or possibly later), so the official iOS 14 update is likely to be released later than every year.

Despite this, there are also some rumors that the first iOS 14 update will still be released between September 14 and 19, before the launch of the new iPhone from Apple.

SOME NEW FEATURES AND CHANGES

Picture-in-Picture

The picture-in-picture feature on iOS 14 / iPadOS 14 works similarly to macOS, you can move the video display position on other apps, adjust the measure and collapse to the side of the screen to continue playing in the background if desired.

Call interface

The new call interface on iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 has been revised by Apple with a more compact display size, no longer occupies the entire device screen as before, can be compatible with most calls (talk voice or video) and a third-party online chat application. In case if you don't want to receive the call right away, just swipe the Navigation Bar (iPhone X and above) or press the Home button (for older iPhone devices).

App Library

App Library on iOS 14 works similarly to Android's App Drawer, allowing users to display all the installed apps on the device as a list with groups of folders instead of a grid view as before. You can optionally view various types of lists such as recently used, frequently used app notifications or search directly within the app library.

Widget widget

Perhaps this is the most noticeable change for iOS users! With these widgets, users will easily track information quickly from the application such as progress forecast, control buttons when listening to music with Apple Music, Apple Calendar appointment list, locations on Maps, compass positioning, etc. The position can be arranged, but the default size is displayed according to each specific application.

Siri virtual assistant

The Siri virtual assistant also gets a new view, instead of taking up the entire screen of the device when activated as before, the interface will collapse into a small icon below using the screen (the location of the dock bar app) comes with pretty impressive animation effects. In addition, it also supports users to send text messages instead of text as convenient.

Touch the back

Apple has added a small but extremely useful feature for iPhone users. Allows us to perform some quick actions by touching the back of the device two or three times in succession.

Pin a message

This feature allows users to pin groups or chats directly to the top of the Messages app. Although this is only a small change, it can make it more convenient to use and find regular messages more quickly.

CAUTION NEED TO KNOW BEFORE UPDATE

Data backup

Note that, before upgrading iOS you should create a backup first on your computer (via iTunes or third-party software like 3uTools), or Apple's iCloud cloud storage service (but only suitable for those who subscribed to storage expansion plan) to avoid data loss.

For devices using iOS 12 - iOS 13

In case you are using iOS 12 to iOS 13, you can perform iOS 14 / iPadOS 14 update directly on the device via OTA, just open Settings ➡ General settings ➡Software updates. Wait for the data check to complete, download it and confirm that the device update is done, the rest will be automated.

For devices using a lower version of iOS

Because the system structure of iOS 14 / iPadOS 14 has many changes compared to older versions, updating directly via OTA is nearly unavailable (or may cause errors during the update). Therefore, you should perform the manual upgrade to iOS 14 / iPadOS 14 manually using your computer via iTunes software and firmware.

For devices using iOS 14 / iPadOS 14 beta

In case you are using iOS 14 / iPadOS 14 (including public and developer), you first need to delete the profile that supports the beta version on your device (Open Settings ➡ General settings ➡ Device and configuration management ➡ delete Profile beta and reboot). Then proceed to check for updates via OTA (Install ➡ General settings ➡ Software update) or download the firmware and perform the upgrade via computer

This method also applies to devices upgraded to iOS 14 / iPadOS 14 GM, the final pre-release beta and with the same build code. If you leave this version intact, the device will not receive the update notification via OTA.

For jailbroken devices

The biggest downside for jailbreak users is that it is not allowed to update the device directly using OTA, required to perform a device restore with software on the computer. Therefore, the most important step before upgrading is to backup data and sign out of the iCloud account (if any), then download the iOS 14 firmware and restore with 3uTools.
